Budget 2026: What it means for Moore

Tonight’s Budget delivers tax cuts, cheaper healthcare, and a fairer go for first home buyers — here’s what it means (at a high level) for Moore.

People in Moore are working hard. They’re doing the right thing — paying their bills, running their businesses, taking their kids to footy on Saturday. But the pressure has been relentless. Prices are up at the servo, up at the supermarket, up everywhere. A lot of that is being driven by what’s happening overseas, and we can’t control all of it. But we can do something about it here at home.

That’s what this Budget is about.

More tax cuts for working Australians

Starting 1 July, every Australian taxpayer gets a tax cut.

On top of that, we’re introducing an extra $250 off working Australians’ tax bills permanently, and a $1,000 instant tax deduction — no receipts needed. Add it up with everything else we’ve already delivered, and the average worker will be better off by nearly $3,000 by 2028. That matters in a community like ours, where most people are working full time and watching every dollar.

Strengthening Medicare

 We’re continuing to strengthen Medicare.

I hear it constantly at mobile offices and on the doorstep — people waiting too long to see a GP, or not going at all because of the cost. We’ve already made the biggest investment in bulk billing in Medicare’s history, and there are now almost 3,800 fully bulk billing practices across Australia. We’ve opened 135 Medicare Urgent Care Clinics and we’re making them a permanent part of Medicare — walk in, get treated, pay nothing. Prescription medicines are now capped at $25, or $7.70 for concession card holders.

Record funding for public hospitals

This Budget delivers a record $25 billion for public hospitals.

That flows through directly to hospitals like Joondalup Health Campus, meaning better waiting times, less pressure on the emergency department, and more beds available when people need them.

A fair go for first home buyers

For younger people in Moore who are trying to buy their first home, this Budget takes direct action.

Right now, first home buyers are being priced out by investors who have the tax system working in their favour through negative gearing and capital gains tax concessions. That’s not fair, and we’re reforming both. We’ve already delivered 5% deposits and we’re building 100,000 homes set aside specifically for first home buyers. We’re also funding the infrastructure — roads, water, power — that gets new homes built faster.

More secure fuel supply

We’ve already cut fuel taxes to save money at the bowser.

Now we’re going further, growing our national reserves of jet fuel and diesel to 50 days and requiring gas companies to reserve 20% of their exports for Australia. In an uncertain world, that kind of preparation matters.

My job is to make sure Moore is looked after. This Budget does that.
